The challenge

Starting From Scratch: Bipolar clinical trials offer hope to millions by advancing science and improving treatment options. 1nHealth was tasked by a sponsor to recruit patients for a bipolar clinical trial after the previous two recruitment vendors failed to enroll a single patient.

The strategy

Maximizing Reach With Video: Effective platform selection and video content are essential in top-of-funnel recruitment for bipolar clinical trials. The right platform ensures that trial information reaches the target audience, whether through social media, email campaigns, or health-focused sites. Video, on the other hand, engages potential participants by making complex trial information more accessible and relatable. By using video to explain trial details, share patient testimonials, or introduce researchers, clinical trials can humanize the experience, build trust, and increase patient interest. Combining these strategies ensures wider reach, better engagement, and ultimately higher enrollment success for bipolar studies.

Empathetic Messaging
Effective recruitment for bipolar clinical trials starts with empathetic messaging. We created compassionate communication that acknowledged the challenges patients face, encouraging participation while demonstrating respect for their journey. This approach created a strong connection with patients and led to high engagement rates at the top and in the middle of the funnel.
A/B Testing Video
In addition to top-of-funnel recruitment on Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram) we started A/B testing ads on TikTok. By the end of the campaign, nearly 25% of our enrollments came from TikTok.

The solution

Site Support Focused On Retention: Maximizing patient retention in bipolar clinical trials is especially important for participants who may already feel isolated due to their condition. These patients often struggle with mental health challenges that can affect their engagement. We assigned dedicated Site Coordinators and Patient Coordinators to help manage the influx of referrals for all 12 of the sites connected with this study.

The results

Zero To Hero: By the end of the campaign, 1nHealth had sourced 24 total enrollments in the same conditions that two previous recruitment vendors had failed to enroll a single patient.
