2.4x faster enrollment after rescuing a shingles vaccine study

How close collaboration between 1nHealth and site staff led to faster enrollment than even the best-case timeline projections for a shingles vaccine campaign.

The challenge

Lagging Recruitment: Shingles affects millions, and effective treatment options are vital. But precise targeting is needed to find patients who are at risk and also fit within what are typically strict I/E criteria. 1nHealth partnered with a sponsor for a new Phase 2 on US site-based Phase 2 shingles vaccine study running in 11 sites across the United States. Recruitment had fallen behind, so 1nHealth was engaged to supplement site recruitment efforts to close Phase 2 within the enrollment window.

The strategy

Data-Driven Enrollment: A/B testing top-of-funnel ad sets allows for identifying the most effective messaging and targeting, ensuring the right candidates are being reached from the start. By optimizing these ads, you reduce the likelihood of attracting unqualified participants, which directly lowers screen fail rates mid-funnel. This iterative approach improves lead quality and streamlines the recruitment process, helping clinical trials enroll more eligible participants and keep the study on track.

Optimized Ad Campaigns
Our creative team designed and A/B tested ads to resonate with the right audience, ensuring the messaging attracted highly qualified participants. We also overhauled the pre-screening process, asking more precise and relevant questions to weed out ineligible candidates earlier.
Reducing Screen Fail Rates
We also reduced screen fail rates from 42% to 33%. This significant improvement accelerated enrollment timelines, reduced wasted resources, and brought the trial back on track.

The solution

Hands-On Support: Our operations team provided hands-on support directly to each site’s staff to ensure online-generated potential patients were qualified and scheduled seamlessly. This included deploying 1nData as the study’s all-in-one patient tracking platform—giving site staff and sponsor teams access to real-time patient data, site-by-site comparison metrics, and automated follow-up communication.

The results

Back On Track: Before 1nHealth was involved in the study, sites were only seeing 26 ICFs per week. After we started to supplement the enrollment efforts, that average jumped to 61 ICFs per week. Not only did our efforts accelerate enrollment, but the study was completed a full month before sponsor’s original pre-1nHealth expected timeline.

Accelerate enrollment at any scale

"The 1nData platform is very adaptable. Most other enrollment platforms don't change their strategy based on what's working, but this can be tweaked in real time based on the data collected from potential subjects."
